Love-A-Child Mentoring

The purpose of the Love-A-Child Mentoring Program is to provide friendships and promote personal and social growth of children through relationship building, enrichment activities, and educational guidance.

This program matches responsible adults with children raising their self-esteem, improving academic and or social success in a school setting. If you would like to become a Mentor for a child in our community, please call 502-878-0001 or email Joe Brewer at jbrewer@hccares.org

A mentor is a person who builds a relationship with another person in order to support or counsel, to be a friend, to teach something new, or to just be a positive role model

As a mentor, you can reflect the basics of a healthy community to a child

  • a safe place with structured activities to practice during school hours
  • a positive outlook on education and family life
  • healthy social skills
  • an opportunity to give back to the community with a sense of purpose

Much research has been done over the years about the long-term impact mentoring has on children.  Here is just a sampling of some of the ways mentors affect the lives of their mentees:

Among students who spent 30 minutes to 1 hour weekly with a mentor, researchers discovered the following:

  • 81% reported increased self confidence
  • 63% improved their attitudes toward learning
  • 62% demonstrated better cooperation
  • 45% decreased drug use/abuse
  • 82% liked school better because of their mentors
  • 77% said they did better in school because of their mentors
